Companions of the Oratory

Each Province of the Oratory also includes Companions, who are an important part of the Oratory family. Companions, after a period of probation, promise to keep a Rule of Life, based on the Rule observed by the professed brethren. They seek to attend the Eucharist on Sundays and some weekdays, to give a generous amount of time to prayer regularly, to spend time in retreat and to be regular in alms-giving, confession and praying for the Oratory. Companions also read and study the Seven Notes as, although they don’t apply in every detail to the Companions way of life, they reflect the spirit of the Oratory Life.

Companions are warmly invited to join the professed brethren for College, Provincial and General Chapter and report on their observance of the Rule once a quarter to one of the brethren.

If you wish to know more, or to test your calling to be a Companion of the Oratory – please do get in touch with Fr Christopher, OGS our Provincial Companions Secretary. His email address can be found here. You can also click here to read more about what the Oratory life means for different companions.

Associates of the Oratory

The Associates of the Oratory are those who wish to receive its annual report, newsletter and intercessions list, and to pray with and for the Oratory. They make no formal promise to follow a Rule of Life. If you would like to be an associate of the Oratory, contact Fr Christopher, OGS, whose email can be found here.

Some Companions renewing their commitment to the Companion’s Rule in Cambridge (2013)

God of peace, you raised from the dead our Lord Jesus Christ,
the great shepherd of the sheep by the blood of the eternal covenant.
Help us to know him as our Lord, to listen to his voice,
and to follow him wherever he leads;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
